Kogi State House of Assembly’s factional Speaker, Godwin Osiyi, said the state legislators are ready to work with anybody who becomes the governor of the state.
Osiyi, who stated this yesterday while speaking with newsmen at the NUJ press centre, said the impeachment of the embattled speaker, MomohJimoh Lawal, is an internal wrangling and not influenced by any ‘external’ forces as being rumoured.
Osiyi, who his representing Ogori/Mangogo state constituency, said the impeachment of the former speaker cannot be upturned, “We have heard many stories that our action (impeachment) was manipulated by some outside forces.
“We will like to reiterate that nobody or anybody from outside engineered our action. Our fight is an in-house fight and not influenced by anybody.
He added “We are here to re-enact that MomohJimoh Lawal, former speaker of the State House of Assembly, remained impeached as carried out on the 10th of December, 2015 in the Assembly Hallow Chamber by resolution of seventeen members.
Godwin Osiyi listed the grounds on which he said Momoh Jimoh Lawal was impeached as “Gross incompetence; insensitive to members interest and plights; misrepresentation between the Assembly and the executive for his personal interest and aggrandizement.
He added that Lawal was impeached based on mismanagement of Assembly funds and other valuable resources; “betrayal of trust repose on him by members and high-handedness in administration of the Assembly as he operated like sole administrator.
“There is no country where democracy is practice; even America that remains the mother of democracy; that a Speaker will be impeached and such process will be upturned.
“If anybody is now entertaining fear that the impeachment will affect them in their pursuit to be governor; we say categorically that we will work with anybody that God chooses as the governor. Our role is to legislate and we will not interfere with the executive or judiciary function.”
