2015, A Year Of Disappointment For Nigerians Under APC Rule – Dominic

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state, Dr. Michael Adegbola Dominic on Sunday said the performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Muhammadu Buhari has given Nigerians nothing to cheer about.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent on his assessment of the outgoing year, Dominic, a former governorship aspirant in the just concluded elections said all the high hopes Nigerians had before the conduct of the elections had been turned into despair after seven months of Buhari in the saddle.

While faulting the ruling party of failing to fulfill the promises it made during the election, he said many who voted for the APC are now full of deep regrets and wish that the PDP had continue in office.

According to him, “We started 2015 on a very optimistic note. It was the year of elections and Nigerians believe that whichever party wins, be it the PDP or APC or any other party will bring about a new lease of life.  All the parties made several promises of giving Nigerians a new lease of life”.

“The elections came and went. The APC was declared the winner but unfortunately, we have met serious disappointment. Seven months after the APC came into power, I can say that Nigerians are disillusioned generally. The bright hopes we had at the beginning of the year has turned sour. Things has gotten worse as a matter of fact. Insurgency has escalated. Governance seems to be at a standstill”.

“As we speak there is serious fuel scarcity nationwide coupled with power outage. We had some improvements in the power sector shortly after the new president, Muhammadu Buhari was sworn-in and some people told us it was due to ‘Buhari’s body language’. Now, things have gone worse and Nigerians are wondering if the body language is no longer there”.

“The economy is in crisis, a dollar to a naira is over N280. Businesses are folding up. Foreign investors have fled the country while new ones are not coming in. All other things have been bad and there is nothing to write home about in any sector of the economy”.

The PDP chieftain who also expressed disappointment at President Buhari’s anti- corruption fight said though many Nigerians voted for Buhari because he promised to fight corruption to a standstill and bring looters of the nation’s wealth to book, the war has been selective and targeted against the opposition.

“On corruption, before Buhari came in, he was spitting fire that he was going to kill corruption. Nigerians were very happy about that because we want corruption to end as it is the major bane of our progress”.

“But so far, we have been disappointed. We see more of fighting corruption on the pages of newspapers and the war was also targeted against some selected people” he said.
