A rights group, Mission for Rescue of Nigeria Socio-cultural Environment, has demanded the immediate release of results of the Bayelsa State governorship election  in Southern Ijaw.

It will be recalled that results of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State was cancelled by the Independent National Electoral Commission over allegations of widespread violence, ballot snatching and hostage taking of electoral officers and corps members.

The Coordinator of the group, Ambassador Sokari Afiesimama, said contrary to insinuations, the poll in Southern Ijaw was peaceful,  stressing that its cancellation was ill informed and unthinkable.

Afiesimama,  therefore, urged stakeholders who wished Nigeria’s continued greatness and corporate co-existence to ask the INEC to release the results and announce the winner.

He stated, “The relevant authorities should call on INEC to release the election result which translates the electoral decision of the people of Southern Ijaw.

“The continued delay in announcing the election result as collated in Southern Ijaw will create a very wrong precedence that will not do the state any good.

“We want the results released so that the people of Bayelsa can heave a sigh of relief. The continued delay is capable of creating implosion in the homogenous Ijaw state.”

He saluted the professionalism of the military and the media during the Bayelsa poll.
