Four people died Tuesday evening after a lorry hit a motorcycle in Esikulu village in Busia County.

The four, killed in the crash on the Busia-Kisumu highway, included three passengers on the motorcycle and a pedestrian.

Two of those who died are brothers from Bukesa village.

Eye witnesses said the driver of the lorry, which was heading towards Kisumu from Busia town, lost control of the vehicle and hit the motorcycle that was ferrying passengers. The lorry also hit a woman who was walking along the highway.

Ms Ann Onyango, a witness, said the lorry veered off the road to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle.

“It seems the lorry’s brakes failed. It hit the boda boda,” she told Nation.

Busia Police Commander Gerald Gitau said a form three student was among those killed in the crash. He said two of the victims are yet to be identified.

“Road users should be careful especially during the festive season. Boda boda riders and passengers should wear helmets to avoid injuries,” he said.
