The Lagos State Ministry of Health, Lagos State Primary Health Care Board and JICA  has began the project for ‘Strengthening Pro-poor Community Health’(Project) in May 2014 and expected to run through 2018.

The project is aimed at creating demand for primary health care services at the community level,  according to a statement made available to Ceoafrica by the media department.

One of the priorities of the soon to be launched Sustainable Development Goals is to reduce inequality.

The statement added: "Reducing disparity in access to health between the wealthy and the less privileged is inevitable in reducing inequality. In line with this goal, the Project seeks to contribute towards ensuring that the target communities in the Eti-osa Local Government Area have access to essential and quality health care regardless of their ability to pay. It is thereafter expected that the project will be scaled up to other parts of the state."

The JCC is expected to meet and endorse the work plan of the project and to review the progress and achievements of the project so far as well as to take definitive actions for the smooth implementation of the project activities.

The Lagos State Honourable Commissioner of Health, the Special Adviser on Primary Health Care and the Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency who are key members of the JCC are expected to be in attendance at the event.
