A woman suspected of conspiring to kill her husband over wealth was on Monday charged in a Mombasa court
Mrs Rose Adhiambo and her housemaid, Ms Doris Akinyi, appeared before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi and denied the charges.
They were charged with plotting to kill Mr Polycarp Okumu at Beach Road Estate in Mombasa between October 20 and 26, 2015.
The court heard that the accused hired assassins from Kisumu to kill the complainant.
It is alleged that Ms Adhiambo was nabbed by her husband at Kenya Commercial Bank's Naivas branch in Nyali while withdrawing Sh1.2 million, which, it is alleged, she was going to be used to pay the assassins.
Ms Adhiambo was arrested at the bank while also trying to contact the alleged assailants who were to receive the money before executing the murder.
Prosecutor Lydia Kagori asked the court to mention the case on November 11 for the purpose of consolidating it with another file before fixing a hearing date
Ms Kagori also told the court that the bond application will be made in a trial court after consolidation.
She also said prosecutors would object to the release of the accused on bond.
The magistrate, however, allowed the defence to apply for bond later in the afternoon.
