The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, has been thrown into pandemonium, following the discovery of the lifeless body of a former Provost, College of Health Sciences, Prof Solomon Ogunniyi, inside his office.

CEOAfrica gathered that Ogunniyi was found dead inside his office on Thursday. Some of the students who spoke with our correspondent said Ogunniyi locked himself up in the room and was found dead by those who forced the door opened after knocking at the door repeatedly without any response.

They added that what triggered the attempt to force the door open was because Ogunniyi did not come out of the office for a very long time.

The doctors at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital confirmed his death after been rushed to the hospital. The deceased, who was said to be in his sixties, left behind a wife and two children.

While ruling out murder the Public Relations Officer of the OAU, Mr Biodun Olanrewaju, speaking with our correspondent on the telephone, confirmed the incident. He said Ogunniyi’s death could be caused by illness, though, no investigation had revealed that the lecturer was murdered.

The lecturer’s death however came three months after the university lost a lecturer at the Department of Agricultural Economics of the institution, Dr Deji Adejobi, to assassins. Adejobi was shot dead at his residence located at the New Dawn, near Ife toll gate, in Ile-Ife.

Also, Prof James Olomo of the Department of Nuclear Physics, disappeared over two years ago and he is yet to be found. Olomo travelled to Eket in Akwa Ibom State to offer consultancy services to an oil company and lodged in a hotel. He left his hotel room and nothing has been heard from him since then.
