Bauchi govt presents N102bn budget to house

Bauchi State governor, Mohammed Abubakar has presented a budget estimate of N102.8 billion to the State House of Assembly as 2015 reviewed budget proposal.

Presenting the budget to the lawmakers in the State House of Assembly in Bauchi on Tuesday, Abubakar said the budget tagged: Prudent Budget for the bedrock of change, comprises of N63,382,199,682 for recurrent expenditure and N39,478,660,558 for capital expenditure.

Abubakar said that the budget will focus on  completion projects/programmes of the APC manifesto, which comprises of allocations for construction, rehabilitation, repairs of roads construction and provision of electricity, construction of traffic and street lights as well as security of lives an properties in the state.

He added that the 2015 budget passed into law by the previous administration was based on certain macro-economic assumptions that were not in tune with current realities,  pointing out that a benchmark of crude oil price was fixed at $78 per barrel for 2015 as against the current price of crude oil of $45 per barrel in the world market.

In the budget, the governor noted that the sum of N55,198,934,706 was estimated as recurrent revenue, which is made up internally generated revenue and statutory allocation while the sum of N63,382,199,682 is earmarked for recurrent expenditure, which is made up of personal cost, overhead cost and consolidated revenue fund charges.

Abubakar then appealed to the house to expedite action towards passing the reviewed 2015 budget into law to enable government implement the budgeted programmes and projects in order to meet the yearning and aspirations of the people of the state.

In his remarks, the Speaker, Bauchi  Hon Kawuwa Shehu Damina, assured that the house will waste no time at ensuring the passage of the appropriation amendment bill into law in order to usher the state to its next level of transformation.

The speaker said: "it is pertinent to state here that the amendment of the 2015 appropriation law will make way for internal reallocation of resources in the existing budget passed by the previous administration and that will enable the government  to embark on important development projects in the state."
