OP Pulo Shield bursts militants, pirates camps, recovers arms and ammunitions

 In a bid to checkmate the inflow and proliferation of arms and ammunitions in the Niger Delta region and its environs, troops of the Sector 2 OperationPulo shield (OP Pulo Shield) has commenced massive raids on perceived militant and pirates camps, recovering arms and ammunitions.

According to a statement made available by the Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre, Lt Col Isa Ado, some of the notable areas raided by troops included Abonema general area in Rivers State, where one AK 47 automatic rifle and two magazines loaded with ammunition were recovered.

While escorting oil company workers from Tebidaba flow station, the troops encountered gunmen suspected to be sea pirates. The gunmen, on sighting the troops, threw their weapons into the sea and escaped into a nearby bush.

In the same vein, troops of Sector 2, in conjunction with Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Southern Ijaw Oil and Gas Task Force, conducted a joint operations at Gbenekrukru general area in Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa State, destroying five illegal oil bunkering sites, where oil thieves operates with four drums containing crude oil, one metal tank containing Automated Gas Oil (AGO) and five Cotonou boats containing stolen products.

Other items discovered at the site included seven pumping machines and 24 empty tanks. The sites and the items were destroyed in line with the mandate of OP Pulo Shield. Three suspected criminals were also arrested in Nembe in possession of one locally made pistol and substance suspected to be cocaine.
