The Anambra state election petitions tribunals I and II have upheld the elections of all the candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ihiala, Nnewi North and South, Anambra East and West federal constituencies.
The member representing Nnewi North and South federal constituency, Hon. Chris Azubogu, Tuesday floored the son of late Ikemba Nnewi, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Emeka Junior.
The most surprising judgement Tuesday happened when the tribunal I headed by Justice Nayai Aganaba declared Governorship candidate of PDP during the last election in 2011, Comrade Tony Nwoye winner.
Nwoye, contested for the NASS election of March 28, 2015 against Hon, Mmadubueze of APGA after losing the 2011 Governorship election to Governor Willie Obiano.
After the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mmadubueze of APGA as the winner of the election for Anambra East and West federal constituency.
Delivering judgement in tribunal II, Justice Hezekiah Solanke, who started the judgement at about 5pm, said Hon. Azubuogu was duly elected, and dismissed Ojukwu’s petition.
For Ihiala federal constituency, two candidates, Ifeanyi Momah of APGA and Hon. Forte Dike of the All Progressive Congress (APC), had approached the tribunal challenging the declaration of Hon. Emeka Anohu as the winner of the election by INEC.
They alleged that irregularities and fraudulent practices marred the March 28 election, alleging that election did not take place in many wards in Okija, Azia, Uli among others.
As at the time of filling this report, the justice Aganaba led tribunal I was just starting the judgement between Senator Andy Uba of PDP and former Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) vice chairman Ernest Ndukwe of APGA.
