
Coastal Union player, Mshauri Salim, died on Saturday after collapsing during a match between his Under-20 team and Eagles Academy at the Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga.
Coastal Union Information Officer, Oscar Assenga, said that the incident occurred during the U-20 match which preceded the Mainland Premier League fixture between Coastal Union of Tanga and Mwadui FC of Shinyanga at the same venue. During the match, Salim reportedly collided with Eagles Academy's player and he was treated on the ground and allowed to continue playing. However, the player collapsed while standing alone few minutes later and had to be rushed to Ngamiani Health Centre for treatment but he died on the way.
"He was transported to a local hospital but did not survive. He died on his way to the hospital," Assenga said. Assenga said burial arrangements are being finalised and more report will be issued by the club. No further information about the incident that led to his death was immediately released.
Meanwhile, the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has sent condolence message to Coastal Union Chairman, Twaha Ahmed, following the death of the club's U-20 player, Mshauri Salim.
