The Oshikuku Town Council has tabled a budget of over N$33 million for the current financial year, a portion of which will be used for capital projects aimed at renovating the town's sanitation infrastructure.

Some of the funds will be used for roads construction and rehabilitation, and for the provision of basic municipal services.

This is in line with the council's mandate to provide and ensure that municipal services are brought closer to the people.

"The council wants municipal services to be accessed and enjoyed across the board, such that once the residents are connected to the basic services and pay their bills on time then they have all the rights to freely demand other services," stated the public relations officer and local development officer, Gerhard Sam.

"You will notice that most of the capital projects for 2015/16 are at Extension 2 and 4, which were previously informal due to lack of bulk services, but the council wants them fully formalized," said Sam.

Council has also allocated affordable plots to low income earners so that all residents can have a place to call home.

According to Sam, the demand for housing in Oshikuku is quite high and the council is working around the clock to ensure that about 1 000 applications currently on the council's desk are addressed in the near future.

Council is also in the process of building gravel roads at Extension 2 and 4 as well as surveying Extension 7.

The Oshikuku fire station is also nearing completion. The station will cost N$2.7 million.
