Bauchi gov launches tree planting campaign

The Bauchi State governor, Mohammed Abubakar has launched a tree planting development exercise.

The launching was held at Dungude community area of Azere Local Government. Trees like neem, mango cashew moringa and date palm canel were reportedly planted at the launch

The governor also distributed about 60,000 nursery to the public to be planted in various environment.

According to the director of mining and environment, Alhaji Sule Yakubu, another 50,000 nursery were also distributed to the zonal headquaters and 12,000 seedling of palm trees were also distributed across the state.

Also, no fewer that 30 youths were distributed across the state in the growing and developing of the trees,  the activities is to ensure the monitoring and growth of the project.

John Miller the permanent secretary of the ministry, revealed that the campaign was an indication by the government to protect the forest against illegal encroachment.

Katagun area is among the Green Great Word (GGW) corridor, were the GGW program is being implemented.

Gov Abubakar explained that forest and wildlife are sources of food, shelter and water, adding that forest could also serve as protector against soil erosion.

"The government attach great importance to this event, particular now that global attention is focused on conservation of the environmental protection," he said.

He went further to discourage the act of bush burning, felling of trees for farmland, explaining that they could limit the resources.

Gov Abubakar employed the public to protect and support the project in all way possible.
