As parts of events to commemorate September 17 which is a public holiday in Angola, over 253 photographs of Angola's first president, António Agostinho Neto, are on display, Wednesday in London, United Kingdom,.

The exhibition is meant to mark the National Hero's Day, September 17, which is a public holiday in the African country.

The photographs on display in the hall of the Angolan Embassy in the United Kingdom show multidimensional aspects of Agostinho Neto, namely as a patriot, exceptional politician, a poet and man of culture, according to a press note from the Angolan diplomatic mission in London.

The note adds that the exhibition also shows the key role of President Agostinho Neto, also known as Kilamba, in the struggle for Angola's liberation and against foreign domination.

With this event, the Angolan community in the United Kingdom pays tribute to the founder of the Angolan Nation, a man deemed to be a "tireless servant of the people", as well as a physician, humanist, leader and nationalist.

The same press note states that "36 years after his death (10th September, 1979) the teachings of António Agostinho Neto continue to be alive in the memory and daily practices of those who took over from him and carry his immortal legacy forward, particularly his successor President José Eduardo dos Santos, who is seen as the Architect of Peace in Angola and the main the prime mover of the country's development".
