Muhoroni Youth forward George Mandela emerges as the SJAK/SportPesa Player of the month for August.

The 22 year-old forward triumphed by a unanimous points decision over on-form City Stars hit man Ebrimah Sanneh and Bandari's George Abege.

Mandela becomes the sixth recipient of the award after previous winners Ali Abondo, John Makwata, Gabriel Andika, Karim Nzigiyimana and Jesse Were scooped the gong. For his brilliance in August, Mandela pocketed Sh50,000 and a 42 inch LG television set.

Mandela scored three goals with four assists in the month of August, helping Muhoroni Youth move to seventh in the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) table.

In a month where Muhoroni Youth made the greatest surge upwards in the league, Nakuru All Stars' Patrick Oboya was equally in the race as well as KCB's goal scoring machine Mungai Kiongera. Mandela however, triumphed courtesy of the importance of his goals and assists in to the club.

The jubilant player expressed shock and gratitude for his crowning. He said "I'm happy to receive this award. I did not expect it although I was crossing my fingers hoping a can win and thank God it has come my way. It is the first time in my life that I'm getting such recognition and it will go a long way in complimenting my efforts in future games" he said

Muhoroni Youth have not lost in the last eleven games. The club has moved from second last position in June to fourth on the table. Coach Paul Nkata who handed Mandela a life-line after the players career stalled under previous coaches lauded his efforts saying the player is destined for greater heights.
