
The International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) on Tuesday revealed that it cannot cater for all the needs of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North-east, saying that it can only try its best as their needs are enormous.
ICRC Head of Delegation in Nigeria, Mr Karl Mattl, who gave the revelation in Abuja at the 5th surgical skills for casualties of armed violence, said the seminar which is holding between 15 and-17 was meant to improve the quality of medical intervention and care given to the victims, thus, saving more lives.
Mattl stated: "Since the beginning of the year, Nigeria red cross has been assisting 325,000 IDPs in the north-east including places like Maidugpp
UuUuri, Yola, Mubi, Obviously we can't do everything, we will try to do our utmost best to reach as many people as possible.
"The needs are tremendous, but obviously our effort cannot cater for the needs of all the IDPs in Nigeria, this task is too big for us, we can just do our best," he added.
Mattl emphasised that ICRC was satisfied with the seminar organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, stressing that it has been increasingly attended by specialists due to insurgency in the north-east
Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Health has said it has devised new strategies to ensure that victims are adequately taken care of by setting up integrated emergencies ambulance services.
