the Kwara state house of assembly has restated its commitment towards ensuring that its ongoing investigation into Proliferation of Petrol stations in residential areas in the State capital is concluded. This follows media report that the House is under pressure to withdraw his decision in checking proliferation of filling stations in the State.
The Chairman of the House’s Ad-hoc committee on Checking Indiscriminate construction of Filling Stations in the State, Barrister Kamaldeen Fagbemi gave the assurance in Ilorin while speaking with newsmen. He explained that neither the House nor the Ad-hoc Committee is under any pressure to stop the ongoing investigation.
Fagbemi, who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Ethics, Public Petitions, Priviledges and Judiciary, said the House is responsible to the masses and the under- privilege of the Society who elected them into office. He said the house will not fold its arms and watch the lives and properties of the masses being endangered.
As reported by CEO AFRICA's correspondent, SijuadeEmmanul O, the chairman disclosed that the next stage of the Ad-hoc Committee's assignment will be public hearing by all stakeholders to ensure that the House proffers an enduring solution to the problem.
It would be recalled that the House in its sitting last month presided over by the Speaker, Doctor Ali Ahmad had advised the State Governor Doctor AbdulFatah Ahmed to stop forthwith issuance of permit for new petrol station pending the conclusion of the House's investigation into indiscriminate construction of filling station.
