President Muhammadu Buhari has said the resolve of his administration to fight corruption is not just for virtue and righteousness but for the soul and substance of Nigeria. President Buhari, who said corruption is so prevalent in the country, added that graft is the reason why a potentially prosperous country like Nigeria is struggling to feed itself and provide jobs for its citizen.
The President stated this in his goodwill message to the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Nigeria in Port Harcourt. Represented by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Buhari said the numerous deaths from communicable diseases recorded in the country are traceable to greed and corruption.
He noted that two-third of Nigerians live in extreme poverty, adding that the country must therefore take paradigm thinking about the economy. He said the poor must be helped, first to survive and, then, to fully participate in the economy of the nation.
He explained that the country must block all leakages and invest in infrastructure in order to improve its revenue base.On the insurgency in the North-East, the President said Boko Haram insurgents no longer have the strength to occupy the North-East geo-political zone or any other part of the country.
