The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of having a hand in last week’s reinstatement and statutory retirement of dismissed Commissioner of Police, Zakari Biu.

Spokesman of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, made the allegation on Tuesday during a television programme, ‘Good Morning Nigeria’ on President Muhammadu Buhari’s 100 days in office.

He claimed that the APC cleared Bui in spite of the weight of his offence.

But in a swift reaction, APC spokesman, Lai Mohammed, who was also a guest on the programme, said the APC had no hand in the decision to acquit Bui for facilitating Boko Haram bomber, Kabiru Sokoto’s escape from police detention.

According to Mohammed, the decision was taken  by the Police Service Commission (PSC), adding that any question on the decision should be addressed to the chairman of the commission.

The PSC last Friday cleared the dismissed commissioner of police and reinstated him to his former position before retiring him statutorily.

The commission’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, said the decision to reinstate Bui was taken during the commission’s 13th plenary meeting where he was cleared of any complicity in Kabiru Sokoto’s escape.

Zakari was dismissed on allegations of negligence that resulted in the escape from detention of notorious Boko Haram terrorist, Sokoto.

Sokoto was the Boko Haram terrorist sentenced to life imprisonment for masterminding the 2010 bombing of St Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madalla in which 44 worshippers were killed and 70 others sustained injuries.
