KWARA ASSEMBLY THREATENS TO ORDER RELOCATION OF MILITARY BARRACKS

KWARA State House of Assembly, yesterday, threatened to order the relocation of the military barracks and Nigeria Prison Service from Ilorin over the harassment of residents of the area by officers from both agencies.

This was part of resolutions of the House, while debating on a matter of urgent public importance raised by member representing Ilorin North-West constituency, Abdul-Rafiu Abdul-Rahman.

The Speaker, Dr. Ahmad Ali, while reading the resolution on the floor of the House, cautioned the military and prison authorities to stop harassing residents around Oke-Kura Area in Ilorin West Local Government Area with immediate effect, to enable them go about their normal business activities.

He said the House had constitutional powers and jurisdiction to direct, if the activities of the federal agencies were affecting the well being of the people residing where such federal agencies were situated.

The lawmaker from the constituency had, among others, called for total relocation of the military base and Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, in Ilorin to its permanent site at Mandala in Asa Local Government Area, in view of the harassment being allegedly meted out to residents of the area by the officers of the two federal agencies.

Meanwhile, the Speaker has paid a condolence visit to a member of the House, Mrs Ebun Owolabi, over the loss of her husband, Mr. Samuel Owolabi.
