Osogbo Progressive Union (OPU) would set up a panel of inquiry to probe the alleged attack on the suspended chairman of the home branch of the union, Allhaji Akeem Woleola.

This was said by the National President of the union Dr. Rasaki Shiyanbola at a press conference in Osogbo, he said the probe become imperative to set the record straight and guide against disunity among members of the union. He said that Woleola lied on the claim of attack on him by thugs.

Woleola had recently alleged that due to leadership disagreement in the OPU some hoodlums attacked him and other members of OPU and inflicted machete cut on him, claiming that a prominent indigene of Osogbo sponsored thugs to kill him. But the national President of the body told journalists that Woleola’s claims were not genuine and that the home branch chairman had been suspended from the office last month due to his disrespect for constituted authority and mismanagement of the fund of the union, describing him as a dubious person.

The OPU president warned that if Woleola fails to appear before the panel of enquiry, bigger punitive measure would be taken against him, he maintain that the national body of OPU which  is the umbrella body of all Osogbo indigenes would not fold its arms when the peace of Osogbo is threatened.

In his reaction, Woleola said he was not aware of his purported suspension and that he remained the chairman of home branch of OPU. He said he was ready to face the panel of enquiry if it is constituted in accordance with constitution of the union.

Woleola said he was shock that the national body of OPU was claiming that he was not attacked after he displayed his wound on his head. He said the sponsors of the attack on him actually wanted him to die because of his opposition to the imposition of the national executive.

Woleola noted that the inauguration of the second term regime of the Shiyanbola led executive was null and void because it was hurriedly done when a panel set up by Osogbo Elders Council to probe allegations of fraud against the national executives has not been submitted.
