Ahmed promises SME operators more funds

 The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Abdulfattah Ahmed has promised to make more funds available for small business owners in the state during his second term in office.

 Ahmed made the statement on Tuesday while unveiling Brightway Microfinance Bank, a new Microfinance Bank, MFB, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

He disclosed that his administration had invested about N1.2 billion so far, in the SME scheme which began during his first term in office.

The funds, which was made available in form of revolving credit scheme, have helped to grow the informal sector of the state, and also helped to put food on people’s table.

“The success we have recorded so far has encouraged us, and we are prepared to inject more funds into the SME scheme to further reinvigorate small business owners in our dear State,” he said.

Also speaking,, the director of the new MFB, Alhaji Ajibola expressed his delight at the opening of the bank.

The bank which had been in operation in the last one year, has grown to have over 5,000 customer accounts, and has also disbursed almost N500M in credits to business owners.

Furthermore, the MFB, he said, will issue MasterCard to customers to enable them do e-banking, a feat, he opined, is a first for a MFB in the country.
