The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Odogbo Barracks, Ibadan, Major General Nasiru Muazu, yesterday declared that the war against the Boko Haram insurgents will soon come to an end.

Speaking while declaring open the second quarter conference of the Commander Corps of Engineers held at the Tiger Officers' Mess, Agodi, Ibadan open, stressed the need for army engineers to ensure the removal of the IEDs planted by the insurgent.

The Nigerian Army Engineers had converged in Ibadan, Oyo State to strategized on how to clear the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by the Boko Haram insurgents in the North Eastern part of the country.

According to him, the move becomes necessary because the war against the insurgents will soon come to an end.

``The war has almost come to an end. This is the phase where Nigerian Army engineers are really required. At this time, we normally experience the threats of unexploded IEDs. If you (army engineers) go there (North East), you will all come back alive,’’ he said.

He stated that the fight against insurgency was on-going, urging Nigerians to support the armed forces by providing necessary information about the hideouts of the insurgents and their activities.

``For us in uniform, ours is to deal with them and bring the war to an end,’’ he noted.

The Commander, Corps of Engineer, Major General Sadana Davies, described the fight against Boko Haram as a sappers' war, considering the preponderance of IEDs, which the troops have to contend with.

Davies noted that the engineer troops have performed creditably so far, judging from reports and what he saw during his visit.

He, however, said that much was still required to be done.

``Presently in the North East, there are lots of IEDs that are preponderant in the North East battle. It is our responsibility to see to the removal and clearing of the IEDs and we are playing a very significant role.

"Almost everywhere that was captured before by the insurgents was laid with IEDs and we have removed virtually all except area the Sambisa area now. The nation and our headquarters have provided to both men and equipment. We owe Nigerians real returns on this. We are doing all we can to see that our soldiers there are able to move, live and fight,’’ he said.
