THE Chairman, Post-election Review Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt Honourable Emeka Ihedioha has declared that the will return to power in 2019.
Speaking with journalists at the commencement of a two- day sitting for the South West zone post- election review, held at the South West zonal office of the party, in Ibadan, he assured party members and the public that PDP is working assiduously in to take over power and government back at the national by 2019.
The former deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives who was in company of other members of the committee; Adamu Maina Waziri, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa and Hon Uzor Azubuike, said the party decided to investigate why it lost power to the ruling All Progressives Congress during the March 28 elections, setting up a committee to that effect.
The committees, according to Ihedioha were tasked to dig deep into why the party lost in different zones and profer solutions to ensure victory in future elections.
"It just appear to all of us that Nigeria is still largely a PDP state. In every ward, local government areas, states, zones and indeed in the entire country, PDP remains the most popular party by our recording.
"What has happened to us was that we made very costly mistakes. We took steps that we shouldn't have taken. And those steps today are beginning to hunt us," he said.
Irrespective of the experience in the last election, Ihedioha stated that "The party in its wisdom decided to take steps early enough, as early as May to set up this committee and the committee can begin to review what happened in the election. That's why it's called post-election review committee.
"And that's why we're here today. We have met on several occasions at the headquarters Abuja, and we brought out publications requesting for memorandum from interesting stakeholders.
"Last week, we invited all the state and zonal chairmen and we briefed them on the various programmes that we wish to adopt to reach out to the various states.
"Consequently, we set up three groups: each of this groups consisting of statesmen and women of our great party to visit two zones each. Our group is responsible to finding out what happened in the North Central and South West zones.
"So, this visit is a fact finding mission. And for us, we believe it will be a no hold back deliberations. We believe that in our normal way of playing our politics, everyone and every group will have an opportunity to present their presentations. We'll collate this presentations for onward submission to a committee which would articulate them, review them and come up with our collective position.
"I am aware that this position when we finish will not just be communicated to the head office of our party but every member of our party at various levels. Then, we begin to take steps, corrections and rebuilding where necessary, as we get things done, and put us on a road map to win 2019 elections."
Ihedioha however promised all party members that the committee will give fair hearing to all parties involved "because this is a family affair. That's why we reasoned that it is better we operate from the zonal office of our party."
Corroborating Ihedioha's claim, the PDP chairman in Ekiti State, Chief Kolawole Idowu Faleye said "PDP is the party of choice and for all brilliant and dependable Nigerians. PDP is the party that can move this country forward.
"It is the party of choice for Nigerians viewing the catalogue of achievements it achieved during its reign. We pray that PDP will never die. We're doing this reconciliation to put ourselves back on the track and see where things went wrong for corrections and move forward," he declared.
According to him, as a party that ruled Nigeria for 16 years and by whatever means, APC took over, and we're able to gather ourselves, it's a no joke.
"And it's the party of choice for Nigerians viewing the catalogue of achievements it achieved during its reign. We pray that PDP will never die. We're doing this reconciliation to put ourselves back on the track and see where things went wrong for corrections and move forward," he added.
