
Umar Musa Mustapha , Ph.D, has emerged as the new Pro Chancellor, Chairman of Council, University of Ibadan (UI), replacing General Adeyinka Adebayo.
Dr Mustapha, who was born in Zogarawa village, Dawakin Kudu local government area of Kano State over 50 years ago, attended Bayero University Kano, where he obtained a first degree in Mathematics, a Master's in Business Administration before proceeding to Strathclyde University in United Kingdom, possessing another Master's degree in Industrialization, Trade and Economic Policy.
Dr. Mustapha also attended University of Portsmouth in United Kingdom where he got a additional Master's of Science in Engineering with emphasis on Communications and Manufacturing.
He holds four academic doctorates including Ph.D in Development Economics, Doctor of Business Administration , Engineering Doctorate and Doctor of Sustainable Agriculture from University of Portsmouth, University of Southern Queensland , Australia and Charles Stuart University respectively.
He was actively involved in management responsibilities with Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) for 10years, befoe proceeding to World Bank project and Kano State Polytechnic. Dr. Mustapha joined Glaxosmithkline Nigeria Plc and eventually rose to become the Regional Manager, North.
In 1997, he joined a British multinational -Mentholatum as General Manager in charge of finance strategy, planning , banking and investment . Dr. Mustapha was in 2001 , appointed Managing Director , Chief Executive Officer of another British multinational -Raleigh Nigeria Plc leading over 1, 800 employees.
Visionary , dynamic , thoroughbred entrepreneurial leader, he is a specialist in Economic Policy, Banking and Finance among others, Dr. Mustapha yields his vast knowledge and experience to his new assignment as Chairman of Council - the highest decision making body in Nigeria's premier university
