Olympic Qualify: Nigeria’s Weightlifting Association Names Coach

The Weightlifting Federation of Nigeria (NWF) on Friday announced Ekanem Andrew Ekanem as the national coach for the All African Games slated for Congo, Brazzaville.

The association’s president, Hon.  Chibudom Nwuche, while speaking in Ibadan, Oyo State disclosed that this year’ sporting events would hold in September.

Nwuche told Journalists during the Final of the National Weightlifting Open Trails held at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium to select athletes ahead of the games that "the federation has named Coach Ekanem Andrew Ekanem as the National Coach for the All African Games.

It was gathered that Ekanem is the Chief Weightlifting coach of Akwa Ibom Sports Council.

The former Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives said that the coach would work with four others that would prepare the athletes for the continental event.

The federation's boss, who said that the athletes' camp would be opened on July 4, 2015 in FCT, Abuja, promised that adequate preparation would be made for the competition.

Speaking with journalists after being unfolded, Ekanem promised to prepare a medal winning team for the country.

"I am assuring the nation that all hands would be on deck to groom the athletes for the games," he said.

He, however, refused to predict how many medals the team would coast home at the event.
