Ibadan Rotary Club of Rotary International District 9125, Nigeria, has inaugurated its 54th president alongside his executive members.
Rotary Club with its slogan 'Be a gift to the world' encourages and fosters the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.
In his speech, the new President, Rotarian David Oyesina acknowledged previous president and promised an inclusive leadership and a transparent administration.
"It is a distinct pleasure to assume this position, God helping me with your support and encouragement, I will uphold the precious values of this premier organisation," says Oyesina.
"I thank the immediate past president for the achievements of the club during his tenure."
Professor Ayodeji Oluleye, while speaking about 'Nigeria and the future' at the event, said one of the biggest problems being faced in Nigeria was low productivity. "It is time to focus on objective in the country and forget about prestige. We need plans to avoid arbitrariness.”
He, however, challenged the club to shine more light on mathematics, having shed light on education. He described mathematics as an instrument to get into technology.
"In school, students run away from mathematics, but tell me the walks of life that do not require calculation,?" Prof. Oluleye asked.
In his own remarks, the immediate past president, Rotarian Olatunji Oladunni, appreciated members and past district governors for their supports during his tenure and prayed that the Lord would bless them all "because without you, there won't be any meeting; you come for any meeting, you criticise, you make comments and I sincerely thank you for your support both in kind and cash."
"I thank you all because I can boldly tell you that I succeeded in my year," he said.
His ringing words to the new president: "He is my boss in the public service, but today, I am your boss and I need to advise you that your gentility should improve to take a good step, because sometimes when you are criticised you may think the members don't like you, but I pray that God will help you to steer the ship."
