A twin attack by insurgents has resulted in the killing of about 140 persons in Maiduguri, Borno State, according to security sources.

The first attack was in a village, Musara, in the Monguno Local Government Area (LGA), which the Nigerian military liberated recently.

The Boko Haram insurgents attacked the village in the night and subjected the villagers to horror of horrors as more than 45 persons were killed, said CEOAfrica source.

An eyewitness confirmed that they had been slaughtered. Another resident said they were shot.

The killings were said to have happened two days ago, but details are only emerging. Monguno, in Borno State had been overrun and occupied by Boko  Haram fighters until they were recently driven out by the Nigerian Military.

The second attack was worse. It was on Kukawa, also in Borno State, where about 100 persons were murdered.

Reports claimed that  the worshippers‎ at a local mosque fell victims. One of the survivors wondered how true worshippers could descend on their own and subject the faithful to gruesome murder.

The insurgents later razed down the village, a trademark of their evil acts in the trouble spot.
