Shooting Stars Soccer Club earned their fourth win of the Globacom Premier league, getting the better of their visitors in a pulsating encounter that took place at the Lekan Salami stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The home side got the winning goal at the additional minute of the first half through Yemi Ogunyemi, who headed in a swiftly taken corner kick.
The match began amid so much deja-vu both on and off the pitch; 3SC gaffer Gbenga Ogunbote was glad playing against his former side as players from the visiting team took time to salute their former coach before the match. Hostilities, however, commenced 4 pm and both teams locked horns in a match that was well attended.
The match nearly petered out into a stalemate in the first half until Yemi Ogunyemi raised the curtain at the additional minute. The home fans went frenzy as they were thrown into an extremely jubilant mood.
The second half kicked off with a greater tempo as Sharks were keen on rescuing a point away. 3SC nevertheless enjoyed a better spell of possession and looked more threatening upfront than their visitors.
The away side, however, felt marginalised by the referee for some of his decisions, which they deemed questionable. Both teams had a fair share of chances in the second half, but neither side was technical enough to take the initiative.
The match eventually ended 5.50 pm with an ecstatic home side feeling triumphant. Coach Ogunbote expressed his satisfaction with the final result and was optimistic of his side’s next encounter against Giwa Fc.
While speaking with CEOAfrica after the match, Coach Festus Allen of Sharks FC praised the performance of his players, which he described as the best. He was, however, displeased with the officiating.
“I knew that the game is a difficult one, but I expect more effort from my players in other matches. Perhaps, the referee was biased by giving more support to the home team.”
