Former Super Eagles defender Taiye Taiwo has alleged that players bribe national team coaches before featuring for the nation.
He made the allegation on Friday in an interview he granted Football Africa 365.
“Unlike others, I didn’t offer gifts to the Nigeria coach to be selected,” he told Football Africa 365. “Unfortunately, it’s still happening.”
The former Marseille defender and AC Milan man, who came to limelight in 2005, said that he would not tip any official with gifts to don the colours of the national team.
“I’m not going to be like some who owe their selections on gifts to the coach,” he insisted.
The left-back has terminated his contract with Turkish club Bursaspor because of unpaid wages and is in France scouting for a new club.
Taiwo said, “The French league is my favourite; it’s my adopted country and my city, Marseille. I would love to return, I spent my best moments, my family, my friends are there. I remain a strong supporter of OM. If Jean-Claude Dassier had been able to manage a football club, I would still be in Marseille.”
