Chaos and pandemonium have broken out in the National Assembly, at the plenary session, over the candidates to fill some leadership positions as lawmakers throw punches at one another, but the situation was later calmed.

At the moment, the crisis seems to have abated at the Upper Chamber of the House as Senate President Olusola Saraki has announced some candidates that are to fill these vacant positions after disruptions of activities in the chamber.

Senator Muhammed Ali Ndume (North East) has emerged as the Senate leader; Senator Bala  Nnana emerged the Deputy leader; Senator Olusola Adeyeye as the Senate Chief Whip.

Factions have been created, some members are supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, which seeks to choose the House principal officers, and another members have pitched their tents on the side of the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, who has always insisted on defying the party.

Ali Ndume's nomination as the Majority Leader of the election is in defiance of the party's anointed candidate Ahmed Lawan.

Na'alla was also nominated as deputy leader as against the candidature of party's favourite George Akume. This is seen as victory for loyalists of Saraki.

The nominations are, however, subject to approval.
