The LEAH Charity Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) sponsored by Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, wife of the Kwara State, has screened more than 200 women of breast and cervical cancers in Ilorin.
Mrs Ahmed disclosed this Monday during a sensitisation programme in the state capital. She was represented at the event by the administrator of the NGO, Mrs Oluwatoyin Opawoye.
Mrs Opawoye said that the exercise included awareness lecture on ways to curb the spread of the disease, adding that the screenings were held simultaneously at the Emmanuel Baptist Church premises, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin and the University of Ilorin Sport Centre, Ilorin.
Opawoye who urged women to go for periodic cancer screening, enlightened them on how to carry out a self- breast examination aimed at ensuring early detection of the disease.
Responding, one of the beneficiaries, Mrs Fatimah Yusuf, described the exercise as timely and laudable. She appreciated the governor’s wife for paying attention to women’s health.
