The salaries and benefits of Kano State Deputy Governor Hafix Abubakar, the 13 state commissioners, special advisers and others have been reduced by 50 per cent as a result of the economic hardship facing the state. And this is official.

By so doing, the Governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje , has followed the footsteps of Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai who aside from reducing the salaries of public officials had trimmed the number of ministries in the state from 19 to 13.

It is not clear if Governor Ganduje would go the extra mile to put the economy on the right path.

However, Mr. Ganduje, while inuagurating the new commissioners, had complained that the state and the country are facing budgetary issues and that sacrifices needed be made now that the price of oil continues to fall thus greatly affecting the federal government revenue.

He, however, assured the public and media that should the fiscal health of the state improve, government officials would be rewarded for their sacrifices.

Recently, Governor El-Rufai announced that the government would no longer provide free food and drinks during Ramadan as another cost-saving measure.
