President Muhammadu Buhari's statement, "There is a limit to what I can do at 72," has pitched many Nigerians against one another, even as the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) questions his ability to lead the country'

Buhari made the statement during his visit to South Africa recently, before he flew back to Nigeria, Tuesday morning.

Following this development was a counter-statement from the PDP advising the president to resign from his seat if he knows he cannot deliver on his campaign promises at age 72. "Ordinarily, one expects the president to have made this statement before he assumed the current position, but his reasons were best known to him. In his own thinking, he must have asserted it at the right time -- after elections."

"Definitely, by the time Pa Buhari turns 73 in December 2015, what should we expect him to say? ''I am too old for this mission. Can my Vice takeover from where I'm stopping? I wonder what the headline would be," says a public analyst.

Some angry Nigerians, who took to the social media, have reacted and many more will react, undoubtedly, according to another analyst.

Kunle Adepoju writes, "Now, I hope you (Buharists and APC supporters) read that headline correctly. It is not a cheap blackmail to pull down 'His Holiness, Saint of Daura'. It is not a propaganda from Jonathan's supporters. Truth is, Buhari is not a magician. Buhari is not a miracle-worker. Buhari is an ordinary human being. Buhari is not blessed with supernatural brain. Buhari is not 'deputy God' in the hearts of nobody. Buhari is not fit for second term. These are the facts."

Busayo Bolanle says, "Nigerians that failed to support Buhari are the real patriots and they are now being vindicated for speaking up for Jonathan despite his shortcomings.

"I only sympathise with his unrepentant followers and die-hard supporters who intentionally elevated him as somebody from the extra-terrestrial world with absolute magic wand to solve all our problems within few weeks in power."

Hear Olawale Akande, "They fraudulently dressed the old soldier in a borrowed cloak of puritanism and infallibility while the earth quakes with anger in protest against their mockery and hypocrisy. I rest my case for now for national peace and stability."

for Tayo Agbabiaka, "Buhari was voted in to address the rot in the system and that does not sound as if he is to run a marathon race! Probity is very rare and scarce in Nigeria of today and that is the guy I believe has a pinch of it coupled with his austere life and frugality!

"Buhari won the election for APC and I hope he is going to deliver us from them."

Orivri de law says, "When you know you can't perform, you went ahead to fight GEJ and if not for wisdom that he applied, Buhari would have led to the killing of many innocent Nigerians just for your greedy quest for power. Those who knew you were too old for this young country went on to support you at 72 to be their president. Please, give them the 'change' but as you lambasted President Jonathan, I thought your performance would outweigh his own achievement."
