An embargo has been placed on all forms of leave, either casual or annual, for officers and men in six police commands to stem the tide of kidnapping.
The commands include Cross-River, Rivers, Ebonyi and Akwa-Ibom states.
The Inspector-General of police, Solomon Arese, said all hands must be on deck to achieve results and warned that severe consequent would be meted out to erring officers and men.
This was contained in the press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CP Emmanuel C.S Ojukwu, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, Wednesday.
The statement further added that the Police High Command had equally reaffirmed its commitment to leaving no stone unturned to ensure that peace prevails and people go about their lawful businesses in all parts of the country.
According to the IGP, "I am miffed that despite several directives on anti-crime activities, there are still reports of increasing trend of kidnapping and violent crimes in all of these Zone Six (6) Police Command."
Members of the public are further enjoined to continue to collaborate with the police by reporting any suspicious person or criminal element at the nearest police station for prompt action.
