The trial of the six Central Bank’s officials together with 16 others from other banks continued this morning with the arraignment of Olaniran Adeola, Togun Kayode, Kolawole Babalola, Ayodele Festus, Isiaka Akano, Oyebamiji Akeem, Ayodeji Aleshe, Ajiwe  Adegoke.

When the case came up for hearing, the defence counsels complained of not getting the sworn affidavit, bail application and other documents on time.  According to them, they got the documents late on Friday, 5June which did not enable them to prepare well. This also affected the bail application which should have been finalised for the court to grant the accused persons bail.

Responding to the complaint, prosecuting counsel Rotimi Jacob (SAN) accused the defence counsels of not filing the applications on time. He said that he got the documents for the bail processes late on Thursday, 4June and tried his best to make the documents available unfailingly on Friday.

Justice Adeyinka Faaj , hence, apologised to the defence counsel and appealed to the plaintiff’s counsels to make all necessary and important documents available so that they would not take too much time in arriving at a definite conclusion on whether to grant the accused persons bail or not. He, therefore, adjourned the case till 11 June.
