Lagos - The majority of locally-based Nigerians have suggested compatriots in South Africa return home to avoid xenophobic attacks.

This is according to a snap survey whose findings suggest 35 percent of Nigerians suggest that the Federal Government should “advise citizens to come back home”

According to the survey NOIPolls conducted, 25 percent recommend “diplomatic dialogue” that would secure Nigerians living in South Africa, while 17 percent suggested “employment creation” in Nigeria would reduce the migration of Nigerians to South Africa amongst other suggestions.

Analysis by gender revealed that more female (37 percent) than male (31 percent) respondents suggested the Federal Government should advise citizens to come to Nigeria, whereas more male (29 percent) than female (21 percent) respondents recommended a diplomatic dialogue between the two nations that would aid in securing Nigeria citizens residing in South Africa.

The recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa claimed the lives of four people but it is believed up to seven were killed.

The violence led to a diplomatic row between Nigeria and South Africa after the former recalled its envoys from the Southern African country.
