Sultan charges Muslim journalists on Nigeria's unity, development

The Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA)has honoured 13 journalists with the Muslim Media Ambassador (MMA).While inaugurating the Ambassadors at the National Mosque, Abuja on Friday, the NSCIA' President-General and the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Abubakar Sa'ad charged them on the propagation of Islam, development and unity of the country.

 

It was learnt on Sunday that while noting that they have statutory responsibility to the country and citizenry, he urged them to discharge their duties without fear or favour.

 

According to him, NSCIA recognise and appreciate your contributions to propagation of Islam and contribution to the development and unity of the country. Represented by the NSCIA's Secretary General, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the Sultan noted that most of the journalists had worked under difficulty terrain in their efforts to effectively and efficiently contribute to the propagation of Islam and unity of the country. The Sultan who disclosed that the honour was not to thwart their efforts said "we recognise and respect you for the development of the country and Islam.

 

He granted the journalists the opportunity to have access to the Council's facilities in Abuja. Responding, Alhaji Kabiru Garuba while appreciating the honour, noted that despite the fact the Muslims were in minority in the media. Despite this, he said the Muslims in the media have accepted the challenges to serve God through their profession."Our desire is not for the world materials but for the hereafter. Our is to serve Allah in any capacity we found ourselves," he said.

 

While noting that journalists drawn inspiration from the Holy Quran, he said being a Muslim should not be a barrier to contributing to the unity and development of the country.

 

Those honoured were Musibau Rasak (Gazelle News Online), Adebayo Waheed(Leadership), Ahmed Isa (Love FM), Suleiman Alede (Channels T V), Mustapha Mohammad(AIT), Tajudeen Adebanjo (The Nation) and Akeeb Alarape (The Sun).Others were Kabiru Alabi Garuba (Guardian), Abdul Waheed Bakare (Punch),Wahab

Abdullahi (Vanguard), Mohammad Kudu Abubakar (NTA) and Haruna Idris (Radio Nigeria).
