President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has advocated for combat training of female cadets by the Nigerian Army.

The President said this at the 60th Regular Course Passing Out Parade of the Nigeria Defense Academy, held in Kaduna State.

“I am happy with the performance of female cadets that are graduating today. I know they would complement the security efforts of this country. We are proud of you and look forward to more combatant training for female cadets,” he said.

Speaking further at the occasion, President Goodluck Jonathan, who is also the Commander-In-Chief of Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, urged the graduating cadets to be up and doing in their quest to defend the Country against aggressions.

“You must brace up to join your colleagues in protecting the nation from internal and external threats. You must never compromise strict adherence to the rule of engagement which would help to portray you as good ambassadors of Nigeria whenever you are called to represent the Country outside.”

President Jonathan also expressed his happiness that the Nigeria Defense Academy has imbibed teachings of science and technology into its academic curriculum, and congratulated the institution in advance for the forth-coming golden jubilee celebration in January, 2014.

Other events at the occasion include the conferment of Honourary Doctorate Degree on President Alasain Quatarra of Cote d’Ivoire and other distinguished personalities. Also, Cadets that exhibited outstanding performances during their training periods were decorated with medals by President Jonathan.

Present at the occasion include Kaduna State Governor Ramala Yero, Chief-Of-Defense Staff Azubuike Ihiejirika, Supervisory Minister of Defense Labaran Maku, Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police MD Abubakar, Members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Royal Fathers and many more.

174 Cadets, including 8 from Liberia graduated from the Institution. It is the first tertiary military institution in Africa.
