The vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Yemi Osinbajo has stated that one of the priorities of the party, if elected at the centre, would be to come up with programmes that would enhance the living conditions of Nigerians living with disabilities.
Speaking through a director of the Yemi Osinbajo Campaign Organisation in Lagos, over the weekend, Mr Gbemi Jaiyebo, during an interactive session with representatives of the group in Lagos, Osinbajo described as sad, the plight of the physically challenged in the country, which he said had not really been considered in the country’s affairs.
He assured that besides coming up with programmes and policies that would incorporate Nigerians with disabilities, if elected at the forthcoming presidential elections, Osinbajo added that the APC government would also ensure a speedy passage of the National Disability Bill, currently on the floor of the national assembly.
While appealing to them to come out on Saturday to exercise their civic responsibilities, Osinbajo argued that such step had become imperative for the party to actually carry those reforms it had planned at the centre.
“We as a party, recognise the physically challenged as an integral part of the society, but they’ve not been getting the type of attention they deserve.
“This incoming government would respect and value these people. We won’t take them for granted and we will ensure that they have a right to be respected and to live their lives with dignity, in spite of whatever disability which they have.
“It is obvious that the government in power has not taken them as a priority, because if they had, the National Disability Bill would have been signed into law but all these we promise to correct, if elected in the coming polls,” he added.
