The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje is apparently not kidding in his campaign to oust the executive powers of the economic hub of the country, Lagos State from the incumbent government. JK as he is fondly called by friends and supporters has mustered a valiant opposition to the ruling party as never seen in this democratic clime in the state. Not even Musiliu Obanikoro when he ran under the flagship of the PDP party put up such a challenge to the ruling party.
With the strong presence of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, it is assumed that no opposition party can stand to its challenge but Agbaje is deftly proving this assumption wrong. With his gentle demeanour, the pharmacist and politician is employing all his skills to ensure his presence is felt in the society. He is matching the ruling party in all dimensions. His posters and billboards are ubiquitous like that of his opponent. He has engaged in door-to door campaigns, rallies, radio jingles, in fact, his presence is also felt in the social media. It is indeed evident that he is not bowing out of this political contest, rather, he is throwing in all and believing that he would win the majority votes.
Moreso, he had adopted his initials J.K for OluJimi Kolawole in his campaign to buttress his vision that he is not just kidding but ready to take Lagos state to the next level if he is elected into power. With barely a month to the governorship election, one can only wonder if Agbaje’s valiant efforts will play out well or will it turn out like in 2007? It can be recalled that Agbaje put up an impressive campaign during the 2007 elections under the flagship of the defunct Democratic People’s Alliance (DPA) after he fell out with the APC’s helmsman Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Once again, will Agbaje’s campaign earn him the coveted governorship seat of Lagos State?
