HUNDREDS of suspected Boko Haram insurgents invaded Fuyi, Fatakol and other communities bordering Cameroon, Kala Balge and Gamboru Ngala local government areas of Borno State, leaving dozens of people dead and houses destroyed, sources and witnesses have said.
Kala Balge and Gamboru Ngala are located south east of Maiduguri, the state capital, which remained under the control of insurgents, until recently when Chadian troops dislodged them from their hideouts.
Sources, however, said, after retaking some of these communities, the troops advanced towards Dikwa town and continued their mission.
The incident, according to the source, occurred at about 7.00 a.m. on Thursday, when the insurgents, in coordinated attacks on the communities, slaughtered over 13 people in Fuyi village near Gamboru Ngala, a border town with Cameroon Republic.
Sources revealed that the insurgents, many in number and armed with AK-47 rifles and anti-aircraft guns mounted on some Hilux vehicles, with large number of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and locally made petrol bombs, invaded the communities and wreaked havoc, before the Cameroon troops responded.
The source added that already, the Cameroon troops were repelling the attacks on the affected communities.
