
Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka and other prominent Nigerians including, the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who is also the coordinating Minister of the Economy, on Tuesday declared that only concerted efforts of Nigerians can put a stop terrorism in the country.
They made the assertion while speaking at a “National Rally Against Terror,” held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
The rally tagged, Nigerians Unite Against Terror (NUAT), was led by Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin.
Professor Soyinka, whose message was delivered by Okei-Odumakin, said that a people united can never be defeated, urging Nigerians to shun things that tend to divide them.
Soyinka commended the gallantry of Nigerian Military against Boko Haram and noted that, “Despite recent successes by our army, we must understand that the battle is yet to be over.”
He further urged every citizen to be on the front burner, irrespective of religion, ethnicity or political leanings to ensure that the battle was finally won.
Speaking at the rally, Okonjo-Iweala said that the Boko Haram sect would not win as the combined effort of the Federal Government and the support of Nigerians would see their end.
She also commended the group, led by Odumakin, for organising the rally, which she noted was what Nigeria needed.
“This is what we need for Nigeria. We are one Nigerian, we should not be bombing each other,” she said.
Speaking further, the minister also commended the soldiers for their sacrifice and pledged the Federal Government’s continued support for security operatives fighting to conquer insurgency in the country.
