The Network for Democratic Vanguard has condemned the impeachment notice served on the Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Martin Elechi, by the state House of Assembly.

The group, in a statement by its President, Ndubuisi Agbo, on Monday, described the impeachment plan as a futile mission.

It said the governor had not committed any offences to warrant an impeachment.

The group said with just 100 days to complete his second tenure in office, Elechi does not deserve such a disgraceful exit.

The statement read, “The grounds of the impeachment as postulated by the House of Assembly are already before a court of law. That is to say the grounds of impeachment are already sub judice. The rule of law is that any matter that is sub-judice is not a subject of further comment or action by anybody or institution but must be left for the court to decide.

“It is surprising that the House either ignorantly or deliberately is wading into a matter that is already before a court of law. That alone is contemptuous to the court. Whether or not the court will permit individuals/institution to treat it with contempt is altogether in the hands of the court to decide.

“The drama at the national leadership of PDP makes one wonder aloud, prompting the question – does the PDP have leadership? If yes, can Mr. President give orders to his party men and women and such orders will be neglected or is he a party to the drama now unfolding in Ebonyi State?”
