The leader of the People’s Democratic Party in Lagos, Chief Bode George, has described as false claims that he is against the ministerial nomination of Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.

Following the recent emergence of an audio tape which purportedly captured Obanikoro and other PDP leaders allegedly giving orders to soldiers to rig the June 21, 2014 Ekiti governorship election, members of the All Progressives Congress in the Senate have vowed to ensure that Obanikoro does not scale through the screening.

There had also been reports that the state chapter of the PDP led by George were against the nomination of Obanikoro, who openly disrespected George over the controversial governorship primary of the party which produced Mr. Jimi Agbaje as the winner.

Speaking through his media adviser, Uthman Shodipe, on Monday, George said the rumours were the handiwork of the opposition.

He said the PDP is now united and had agreed to let bygones be bygones.

He said, “For the records, George has nothing against Obanikoro. He comes around to greet ‘baba’ and we always meet at rallies. There is no crisis in Lagos PDP. The common goal is for us to take over Lagos and in all fairness, Obanikoro has been doing well for the party and it will be a big leap for the party if he becomes a minister.

“Bode George is disposed to Obanikoro becoming a minister because it will help the party in the state and at the federal level. The opposition is not making sense, they only want to use divide and rule tactics but we have moved beyond that.

“Nobody in Lagos PDP can campaign against him becoming a minister because he is standing with us now and we are all together. He is campaigning with Agbaje everywhere and mobilising people. He is doing well for the party.”
