The Ondo State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission is expecting 32, 000 Permanent Voter Cards to arrive the state capital for distribution. This number makes up the balance of the total 1, 526,316 cards registered for by voters in the state. The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Olusegun Agbaje, made this known in an interview with our correspondent, in Akure, on Monday. He said the cards were ready for delivery and would be forwarded to the state headquarters of the commission, in addition to the 1,494,169 cards earlier received by the state. According to him, as of Saturday, February 21, a total of 1,058,312 cards had been distributed, leaving a balance of 425,854 PVCs to be collected. Agbaje said the percentage of distribution was 71.50 per cent, with 28.50 per cent left uncollected. “We are asking people to go and collect their PVCs because INEC will be drawing the curtain on the collection on March 8. “We are enhancing our level of enlightenment so that people can come out to collect their cards,” he said. On the card readers, the REC said his office had received about 100 extra card readers, and would receive more before the week runs out – following the procurement of more machines. He argued that the use of card readers was imperative to secure the credibility of votes and ensure free and fair elections. Source: PUNCH
