The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency has threatened to sue the All Progressives Congress over the party’s allegation that NIMASA sponsored some of the televised documentaries against the APC presidential candidate, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)

The Director-General of the agency, Mr. Patrick Akpobolokemi, said this during a press conference in Lagos, on Sunday.

Akpobolokemi said NIMASA was not political, adding that the APC was only grasping at straws due to its imminent defeat at the polls.

He said the APC was known for making baseless accusations against the Nigerian Army, the police and the Department of State Service. The NIMASA boss, therefore, urged Nigerians not to be deceived by such propaganda.

It denied the APC’s allegations that NIMASA had become President Goodluck Jonathan’s ‘ATM,’ adding that the party was only trying to downplay the giant achievements of the Jonathan administration.

He said, “Also very embarrassing is the APC’s allegation that NIMASA is the ATM of President Jonathan. For God’s sake, if a political party is smelling defeat in the nearest future, let it go and confront its problem and isolate us from politicking or any form of campaign. How can somebody make such baseless accusations and go scot free?

“More worrisome is that NIMASA is the one sponsoring documentaries against the APC presidential candidate. It is completely false and malicious. Where is the evidence to show NIMASA engages any media outfit?

“All these accusations either from the APC or disgruntled Nigeria are false, vicious, malicious, wicked and cannot be supported by any evidence and therefore, NIMASA has decided to give the APC 72 hours to retract its statement and offer an apology to NIMASA or the management of NIMASA will take all necessary and legitimate actions against the party.”
