A leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Mrs. Gloria Adebajo-Fraser, on Wednesday, berated a South-West leader of the party, Chief Bode George, over his comment on former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

George, while reacting to an allegation by Obasanjo that President Goodluck Jonathan intended to perpetuate himself in power, said that Obasanjo ‘should graciously fade away into the midnight.”

Adebajo-Fraser, however, said the PDP chieftain did not have the moral justification to call Obasanjo an ingrate, because Obasanjo made him what he is today.

Adebajo-Fraser urged the PDP chieftain to tender an apology for his comment.

She warned him to desist from utterances which, according to her, are highly provocative and capable of further heating up the polity and creating more tension.

Adebajo-Fraser said, “Agreed that Chief Obasanjo, as an elder statesman, ought to observe protocol and control his actions, most especially in the public glare; however, this does not justify the extent of the undue vilification from such a person as Olabode George, who is the estranged political godson of the former President and one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Obasanjo administration.

“It is very important for the elders in the political class to exert caution in their utterances and action during this period. Pre-election violence has already claimed 50 lives according to available records. When the elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers. The life of one Nigerian is not worth the political aspiration of politicians.

“George should watch his words. He is speaking for himself and not for the stakeholders in Lagos. He should be quiet as Obasanjo remains his benefactor on record. He is guilty of all he is blaming Obasanjo for and he has polarised the party beyond imagination. He should leave the stage for the younger leaders in the PDP.”
