The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Gboyega Isiaka, has appealed to his kinsmen in the Ogun-West senatorial district not to betray him during the April 11 governorship election.

He said this in his hometown, Imeko Afon, on Monday during a mega rally held by the party.

He noted that the zone had been denied the governorship slot since the creation of the state in 1976; hence they should not allow the opportunity offered by his candidature to slip away.

Isiaka promised that he would not disappoint them, and also appealed to his kinsmen to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan during the presidential election on March 28.

He said, “You have all vowed to vote for your kinsman in the coming elections and I hope you won’t betray us. I pray we don’t betray ourselves. I want to appeal to you to also extend your votes to President Jonathan at the polls.

“I also appeal to you to cast your votes for the PDP in all the elections. Don’t let anyone deceive you.

“The result of the March 28 presidential election will serve as a pointer to what the outcome of the April 11 governorship election in which I, your son, your brother and kinsman is contesting, will look like.

“Let me remind you that all we are looking for now is the governor. We have never been denied the positions of senator or House of Representatives. You should know that only the governor has the executive powers to do so many things for you.”

Isiaka said the PDP would want a minimum of 90 per cent of the votes to be cast in Ogun-West to go to the party.

He asked Nigerians to question the All Progressives Congress’ clamour for change since its presidential candidate, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) failed to transform Nigeria when he was in charge.

He said, “The President as you know is going to the polls on March 28. As you all know, the President is a youth-loving leader.

“We are looking into the future and I want to tell you that if we are looking at anyone to lay a very solid foundation for the future of this country, you can only find that person in President Jonathan.

“I want to assure you that those going about and shouting ‘change’ ask them when they were there 30 and 40 years ago, how much of those changes did they make?”
