The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial flagbearer, Sen. Teslim Folarin today intimated the Good Governance Movement, Oyo State chapter at his Oluyole residence that if voted into office, Local
Government election will be conducted latest three months into office. He described the imposition of caretaker committee on Local Government administration by the present government as a painful slap on the face of democracy.
The President of Good Governance Movement, Mr. Wasiu Ogunfolabi, said the organization has been watching the political scene in the State with keen interest as it has to do with the future of over seven million people living in the State. “Having considered all factors, PDP flag bearer Teslim Folarin seems to be the best candidate that will deliver the Oyo State of our dream.” He further said because he is doing
his campaign with utmost sincerity and devoid of violence, he urged the people of the State to collectively give him their votes.
In response, Senator Teslim Folarin thanked them for their concern for the State and their sincere assessment. He promised to uphold the rule of law by conducting the Local Government election within the shortest possible time.
Folarin, while describing the Local Government as the tier of government that is closer to the people, he explained that it’s importance cannot be underestimated as it is at the grass root where the pulse of the
government can best be felt by the people. He therefore wondered why the government of the day has consistently denied the people the right to choose their leaders at the Local Government level for three and half years now. He said: “it is the peak of hypocrisy for a government to claim progressive when the people are robbed of their democratic and fundamental rights. The local government is the platform where dividends of democracy are distributed equitably to common man; without apology I want to state clearly that running government for three and half years without dully elected Local Government chairmen is a monumental fraud.”
On this account,Senator Folarin appealed to the people to come out en mass and vote for the party with the candidate that will govern by the stipulated law of the constitution, as it is only by this they can
enjoy the dividends of democracy to the fullest. While also urging his supporters to vote PDP in all their elections, he also advised them to be peaceful in all their conduct during and after the elections.
